Fred

Another Sunday night prospectus, yes; but there are significant shifts in the baseball winds, for sure...

The double take is real. The formidable ocean storm comes from the southern extreme of the AL East. Hopefully, it interacts with the fast Phillies and moves out!

Meanwhile, in Boston, we are at our Aleutian Low. The colder-than-normal pattern, due to much colder air aloft, is forecast to continue through mid-February. At that point, pitchers and catchers MUST develop cyclonic (and anti-cyclonic for left-handers) vorticity avection ahead of their vorticity maximum on Opening Day, April 6th.

This is indeed important, as the confluence of the Floridian storm, combined with the Bronx low, will combine to assault New England with significant trouble, and potential, cool, chilling rains.

Througout 2009, lots of junk lingers. And, without a bigger bat, very chilly and dry conditions will prevail.

All this points to a strenthening and retrograding longwave pattern, that means New England baseball fans can hibernate for now.

Dare we hope for a thaw in the long-range forecast?
