FEBRUARY SNOW PILES UP AT KILLINGTON

LATEST STORM DROPS 11 INCHES, ALREADY 69 INCHES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY AT KILLINGTON RESORT
Background Information: Killington Resort has received 11 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. So far for the month of February, Killington has received 69 inches of snow. Over the past 20 years, the February average is 55 inches. March is the snowiest month of the season, averaging 57 inches. Killington averages 250 inches annually and to date has already received 218 inches.

KILLINGTON RESORT BLANKETED WITH NINETY-PLUS INCHES OF DECEMBER SNOW

KILLINGTON, Vt. (December 31, 2007) – For only the second time in the past 20 years, Vermont’s Killington Resort has received 92.5 inches of snow for the month of December with 11.5 inches falling on the final day of the year.

The last time Killington received more than 90 inches of December snow was in 2003 when a record 96 inches were recorded for the month.

Skiers and riders are rejoicing the powder conditions as the first of two significant winter storms rolled up the East Coast Sunday night into Monday morning. The second storm, in which the National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch, is expected to arrive New Year’s day and cover the largest ski resort in the east with more than six inches of additional snow.

To date, Killington has received 106.5 inches of snow with an average mid-mountain base depth of 38-46 inches. Killington averages 250 inches annually. Currently Killington has 181 of 200 open trails with more terrain opening as additional snowfall is received.

KILLINGTON, Vt. ( December 3, 2007) – Skiers and riders are rejoicing the powder conditions as a significant winter storm rolling up the East Coast has already dropped six inches of snow as of 11 a.m. at Killington Resort, and heavy snow continues to fall.

 

The National Weather Service is forecasting up to another five inches of snow and continued snow showers for the next few days. Currently Killington has 42 trails open with an average mid-mountain base depth of 24-32 inches and powder/packed powder surface conditions. Continued snowfall and snowmaking temperatures will result in additional terrain for the coming weekend.

 

“This storm has already provided a huge boost in terms of improving the already outstanding early-season skiing and riding conditions,” said Dave Rathbun, director of sales and marketing at Killington Resort. “We’ve also seen a significant increase in folks calling our central reservations and going online to book vacations, especially for the upcoming holiday season.”

Killington Resort opened for the 2007-08 ski and snowboard season at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 16th with 15 trails served by four lifts. Two inches of new snow in the past 24 hours complemented the world's most extensive snowmaking system to cover all trails with a base depth of 18-24 inches. Continued cold temperatures will allow Killington to offer expanded terrain for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
