It's opening day at the Topsfield Fair, and I took one for the team - eagerly taking the assignment to report live from the fairgrounds with the most complete preview you'll find anywhere. Granted exclusive access to the Topsfield Fair before the gates opened Friday at 2 PM, we heard from experts in just about every part of the fair!
We started early - just after 5 AM with Bill and Lisa Colby, and their little piglets (only a week old!) to chat about livestock at the Fair:
It wasn't long after, that Jim O'Brien joined me to talk about what makes the old fair (in its 191st year) like brand new:
Peter Gibney came back just hours after he went home at midnight, prepping the Flower Barn for all of the fair-goers!
This past year's reigning Mrs. Essex County, LuAnn Bonanno, shared what it takes to win the title:
One of the biggest draws every year - attracting attention from around the world - is the Giant Pumpkin Weighing, scheduled for Saturday morning. Woody Lancaster not only shared some inside info, but also invited me along for the harvest Friday afternoon! It takes a few hours for me to edit an extensive piece like that together, but check back here for the complete harvest piece soon!
Jason Hudy traveled all the way from just outside of Detroit, Michigan, to perform three shows per day through Thursday at the fair!
Finally, Steve LeMay shared insight on some delicious fair food, and delivers it as only a Fair Foodie can!
Special thanks to everyone at the Topsfield Fair who made today possible, and especially to my guests, who were eager to share their expertise!!
Looks like a lot of fun...Do you realize how great your job is?
