Daily Forecast Video: Winter Air Returns As New England Watches a Powerful Ocean Storm Develop Nearby

Mild air Friday gives way to seasonable January air for the weekend, but taking the attention of meteorologists is a huge ocean storm developing nearby...and exactly where its snow and rain shield will land Sunday into Sunday night. Stay tuned to weekend forecasts, though my best estimate is in the forecast video.  Full details in the forecast video and remember, in addition to the NBC10 Boston and NECN station apps, to download my personal Matt Noyes Weather app to communicate directly with me!

Today (Friday):  AM rain and downpours with a gusty south wind tapers to just a few scattered PM showers and a fresh southwest breeze. Highs in the 50s, 40s north and west. South wind becomes southwest at 6-16 mph with gusts to 40 mph, Cape Cod 15-30 mph with gusts briefly to 50 in the early morning, then lighter.

Overnight Friday Night:  Cloudy, Cape Cod showers. Lows in the 30s, 20s north. Northwest wind 8-16 mph.

Saturday:  Cloudy and raw with a few showers of rain & mixed with snow at times - mostly focused in the morning and midday. Highs in the 30s. North-northwest wind 8-18 mph, Cape Cod 20-30 mph.

Sunday:  Mostly cloudy with snow showers in Eastern New England - steadier snow/rain possible Southeast MA where a few inches of snow may fall depending on an offshore storm track. Gusty at the coast, quite windy on Cape Cod. Highs in the 30s. North wind 12-20 mph, Cape Cod 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

Monday:  Likely more clouds than sun with scattered snow showers possible, particularly in Eastern New England. Highs in the 30s.
